EUROPE CONTEST REPORT 2016
As a part of the Yamaha Technical Academy, Yamaha Motor Europe has organized the fifth edition of the European Technician Grand Prix (ETGP) on the 19th and 20th of September at the European headquarter in the Netherlands. During the ETGP 10 technicians from different European countries competed to become the best Yamaha technician of Europe. All participating technicians qualified themselves by winning the National Technician Grand Prix in their home country. The best 3 of Europe will compete in the WTGP in Japan.
The ETGP is run over a 3 day period:
- Day 1: Welcome and competition part 1
- Day 2: Competition part 2, Yamaha tour and official ceremony
- Day 3: Fun and sightseeing with the "Yamaha family"
During the competition each technician had to work on 6 hand-on tasks and 2 theoretical tasks. The theoretical tasks were all done via the modern Yamaha online Learning Management System so that the technicians could already see their result upon completion. The tasks were aimed on technical knowledge and usage of the service portal including. The hands-on tasks were aimed to test variety of skills and were all based on "real life cases".
Task 1: Replacing an ABS pump (wrenching skills and speed)
Task 2: Troubleshooting about Fuel Injection system using the Yamaha Diagnostic Tool (troubleshooting and YDT skills).
Task 3: Replacing the piston of a scooter engine (wrenching skills and speed)
Task 4: Troubleshooting about charging system (Troubleshooting and electrical measuring skills)
Task 5: Service inspection and Dynamic test using the Yamaha Diagnostic Tool (Service and YDT skills)
Task 6: Measuring a clutch and crankshaft of an YZ competition model (Mechanical measuring skills)
