Getting hands dirty for environmental stewardship
Yamaha Motor New Zealand recently celebrated Yamaha Day on Rotoroa Island, bringing together employees, business partners and volunteers for a day focused on conservation, community engagement and teamwork.
Guided by the 2025 Yamaha Day theme, "Own the Moment, Take Actions," participants left their usual workplaces behind and travelled to the Hauraki Gulf sanctuary aboard Auckland Sea Shuttles and Yamaha-powered vessels.
Working alongside the Rotoroa Island Trust team, volunteers took part in a range of practical environmental projects designed to support the island's long-term restoration efforts. Tasks included clearing vegetation, maintaining walking tracks and controlling pest plants, all contributing to the protection of native ecosystems and helping preserve the island's unique environment for future generations.
The event also gave participants the opportunity to learn more about Rotoroa Island's remarkable transformation. Recognised for its role as a rehabilitation centre, the island has evolved into a leading conservation sanctuary, known for extensive habitat restoration programmes and the successful reintroduction of native wildlife species.
Yamaha Motor New Zealand Senior General Manager Alan Petrie said: “Yamaha Day provides an opportunity for staff to step away from normal routines, strengthen relationships and contribute to meaningful projects that benefit communities and the environment.”
The initiative reflected Yamaha's broader commitment to sustainability, corporate responsibility and supporting local communities.
