India Yamaha Motor Chennai Plant (IYM-CHE) secured the First Runner-Up (Gold) Award at the 10th CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2026, held in New Delhi on 2nd – 3rd July 2026. Presented by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – a premier industry body that promotes India’s industrial growth, policy advocacy, and sustainable development – the award recognized the plant’s outstanding performance in the category, “Best Case Study on Carbon Neutral Initiative”. Competing against 21 organizations from across India, the Chennai Plant was honoured for its significant achievements in carbon reduction and sustainable manufacturing.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Chennai Plant has been developed as an Energy-Saving Factory, with sustainability and carbon neutrality at the core of its operations. As one of Yamaha’s leading Carbon Neutral factories, it follows a structured four-pillar approach comprising Theoretical Value Energy (TVE), Process Innovation, Renewable Energy, and Fossil-Free initiatives.

The recognition highlights the plant’s remarkable progress toward achieving its carbon neutrality targets, including significant progress (85% reduction in carbon emissions), and its continuous efforts to create a more sustainable manufacturing ecosystem.

This achievement reflects the strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and Kaizen (continuous improvement) mindset of the employees. The award marks another important milestone in Yamaha’s journey toward achieving the challenging CN 2030 targets. Going forward, the Chennai plant will continue to strengthen its sustainability efforts through improved energy efficiency, increased electrification, expanded renewable energy adoption, and the implementation of new carbon-reduction initiatives.
