OCEARCH Tags, Names Tiger Shark
in Honor of Relationship with
Yamaha Rightwaters
OCEARCH, a global non-profit ocean research organization, recently tagged and named a new tiger shark in honor of its relationship with Yamaha Rightwaters. Researchers tagged “Kando,” a 10 foot, 405.3-pound adult female tiger shark, 45 miles off the Florida-Georgia coast as part of its ongoing efforts to study and learn more about how sharks contribute to healthier oceans.
The name “Kando” comes from a Japanese word describing the deep satisfaction and excitement of experiencing something truly exceptional, a tribute to the knowledge and inspiration the ocean provides.
“A healthy ocean is essential for future generations, not just for recreation, but for the wellbeing of our planet,” said Joshua Grier, Sustainability Program Manager, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. “Partnering with OCEARCH allows Yamaha Righwaters to support critical research and conservation efforts. Kando is a symbol of that commitment, representing the excitement of discovery and the responsibility we all share to protect the ocean.”
Yamaha Rightwater’s continued support allows OCEARCH to deploy cutting-edge technology, conduct expeditions and expand scientific understanding of sharks’ roles in healthy ocean ecosystems.
As Kando’s journey unfolds, her movements will be tracked in real time, offering researchers and the public a window into the life of one of the ocean’s largest predators.
