Yamaha Variety Jet Trek Raises a Record $380,000 for Children’s Charity
The 20th edition of the Yamaha Variety Jet Trek was successfully completed in March 2018, a personal watercraft charity ride which raises much needed funds for children in need.
The six-day event, from Sydney to the northern New South Wales coastal town of Yamba, recorded 115 riders, plus support crews raising a massive $380,000 in funds for children’s charity - Variety Australia.
Covering over 700km of open ocean, this event was a real test of endurance for even the most experienced riders, with participants experiencing all weather conditions from calm waters to swells of up to 4-metres in height.
Yamaha Motor Australia entered 3 staff members and 2 Yamaha WaveRunners in the event, with each staff member taking it in turn to drive the support vehicle and trailer.
Jason Harris, Divisional Manager, Yamaha Marine said, “Yamaha is a proud long-term sponsor of this event and appreciates the fantastic work that Variety undertakes to support disadvantaged children and their families.
Jet Trek provides Yamaha with a great opportunity to engage directly with the personal watercraft community, while also supporting a fantastic cause.
The event also plays an important role in helping to spread the message of safe and responsible riding of personal watercraft, with the organisers working closely with local marine authorities to ensure the event ran without incident and achieved positive media coverage for Yamaha and the industry,” he said.
Thanks to the ongoing success of this event, 2018 Yamaha Jet Trek will now expand to two events, with the second event starting from the beautiful Whitsundays, in far North Queensland in June 2018.
