YMA/NZ Industry Leader Hands Over the Reins After 36 Years

December, 2017 | YMA

After incredible 36 years with the tuning fork brand, Managing Director Steven Cotterell has announced his retirement.
“Yamaha has provided many challenges and a motivational environment over the years. And the characters that I have been fortunate to work with have kept the role both interesting and enjoyable. This is what I will miss as much as anything,” says Cotterell.
“Being able to experience all of the exciting, innovative Yamaha products, and to play a small part in their development, liaising with Yamaha colleagues around the world and being involved with new business developments has been a real rush,” he adds.

Cotty started out assembling bikes at Yamaha’s QLD importer Annand and Thompson. He competed in enduro and represented Australia at the 1980 ISDT. He also ran a Yamaha dealership in Caloundra, QLD. More recently he headed up YMA/NZ’s MC and ATV sales and marketing divisions before being appointed Director and then Managing Director of YMA/NZ.
His passion for the business – and enduro bikes in particular – helped the factory to develop the WR range, which became the foundation of local retail success. This experience has ensured that AUS/NZ is well represented at factory level across all products and his great efforts over the years have resulted in record market share levels.
