Jet Rescue Craft “RE1800” Saves Lives in Waters of Hakata

October 12, 2017|YMC

On October 12, the Otake Rescue Team, which uses the Yamaha jet rescue craft “RE1800”, was given an award by the Fukuoka Coast Guard Office for saving a fishing boat captain in a capsize accident in early August.

The Otake Rescue Team is stationed near the mouth of Hakata Bay, where there is heavy maritime traffic. Because of the traffic volume, the team is frequently deployed on rescue missions and records one of the highest number of rescue operations and successes in Japan.

In the August accident, the fishing boat captain was waiting for help on top of the capsized ship when the RE1800 arrived at the site. With the wind velocity at 10 m per hour, it was a situation which would have been difficult for an ordinary rescue vessel to safely approach the fishing boat. Despite the difficult conditions, the jet-propelled RE1800 and the team’s rescue procedures enabled the rescuers to quickly and safely respond to a distressing situation.

Nothing gives us more pleasure than seeing Yamaha’s technology put to use during life-saving missions.
