World first WR250R Rally in Cessnock, Australia
Over 40 WR250R owners attended the world's first rally for the model in the Australian town of Cessnock, NSW in 2017.
Riders aged from 17 to 82 were ably led by the team at Ride ADV*1 and hosted by dirt bike legend and Yamaha dealer Chris Watson of Chris Watson’s Motorcycles. Many owners modified their bikes to prepare them for the harsh conditions of Australian adventure riding with accessories such as bash plates, handguards, screens and large capacity fuel tanks.
The world’s first rally for one of Yamaha's most versatile motorcycles is the brainchild of the bLU cRU's*2 Ride ADV boss Greg Yager. He runs adventure rides and has built possibly the most radically modified WR250R in captivity – complete with Rekluse clutch, five LED night lights and super tough wheelset - built to tackle the infamous Simpson desert.
The rally consisted of two days and 500km of mainly dirt bike riding in and around the Hunter region of New South Wales in May 2017.
Age was not the only factor that separated the participants. Despite trail bike riding being traditionally a male activity, the WR250R Rally attracted five women who completed the ride with no dramas.
Following a fun and successful inaugural event, a second WR250R Rally is planned for 28-29 April 2018 at the same location. Closer to 70 riders are expected to attend.
