Born October 1957. Got his start in competition in 1978 in the first Yamaha Cup (later became "the RD Cup"), a one-make race to promote sales of Yamaha's XS400 sports model. From 1980, began racing in the World GP on a Yamaha TZ250 and continued racing with Yamaha up to 1988 as a 250cc class specialist. The highlights of his career were 1982, the year of his first win, and 1985 when he achieved a ranking of 2nd with one win. In 1986, he obtained a YZR250 factory machine and notched up two podium finishes and four pole positions (ranked 6th). The following year, 1987, also entered the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Road Race in place of an injured Tadahiko Taira. Teamed with Kevin Magee, brought Yamaha its first win in the Suzuka 8 Hour. Then, in 1989 switched to Aprilia and until he finally retired in 1991, accumulated 12 years of GP250 riding.
