The machine Rainey rode to his second title

With the new regulation that required GP500 machines to weigh more than 130 kg, the 1991 OWD3 adopted an electronic-control suspension (CES). It also adopted an adjustable pivot assembly designed to hold the influence of return force from the road surface on the chain tension to a minimum and enable setting adjustments to accommodate different course conditions. Rainey won six rounds of the '91 series to claim his second World title on this machine, calling it the best machine he had ever ridden, like an extension of his hands and feet. J. Kocinski also won one round to help bring Yamaha its seventh manufacturers title. In the All Japan Championships P. Goddard rode it to win the series title and bring Yamaha its eighth All Japan 500cc class title.
