Fuel injection that boosts environmental performance


Today, fuel injection is the standard in snowmobiles, and Yamaha Motor has been researching and developing fuel injection systems since the 1970s. After that, Yamaha Motor used fuel injection on a production motorcycle for the first time in 1982 and then on Yamaha snowmobiles beginning in 2006.
Because a snowmobile must function under extreme environmental conditions that can drop to -30 degrees Celsius and often involve big fluctuations in air pressure, a fuel injection system from a motorcycle cannot be used on a snowmobile as it is. Yamaha engineers create snowmobile-specific fuel injection systems by fine-tuning the spray of fuel atomized to a few tens of microns into the combustion chamber with a directional accuracy down to the millimeter and timing in increments of a 10th of a second.
Yamaha Motor's fuel injection systems are not designed simply to improve starting performance and response and to boost power output. They are also developed to boost overall environmental performance by improving fuel economy and reducing exhaust emissions so the rider feels better knowing that the environmental footprint is smaller.

Product creation that is environment-friendly and rider-friendly


Two of the appeals of the 4-stroke engine are its fuel economy and cleaner exhaust. Compared to a 4-stroke, there is inherently more energy loss and more exhaust emissions with a 2-stroke due to the fact that it doesn't have separate intake and exhaust valves. Because the fuel is burned fully in a completely sealed off combustion chamber in a 4-stroke engine, it produces far less carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) than a 2-stroke.
Carbon monoxide (CO) combines with hemoglobin in the blood and thus prevents its oxygen transporting function, and it is a widely known fact that breathing in large amounts of CO will cause carbon monoxide poisoning. As for airborne hydrocarbons (HC), the chemical reaction they undergo when exposed to strong sunlight is said to produce photochemical smog. The smaller environmental impact of the 4-stroke engine with its lower CO and HC emissions are proven facts.
At the same time, the 4-stroke can be called a low-maintenance, low-cost engine. Because of its low level of HC emissions, there is very little hydrocarbon build-up in the exhaust pipe or muffler and periodic cleaning is not necessary. Also, the 2-stroke models burn lubricating oil along with the fuel, whereas Yamaha's 4-stroke engine models have a separate lubricating system that consumes very little oil. And, the performance of the advanced pistons and cylinders in the Yamaha engines further reduces oil deterioration and consumption.
Yamaha snowmobiles are rider-friendly and environment-friendly. This is because of Yamaha Motor's concern for protecting the environment as another way to help riders concentrate on the enjoyment of riding with a product that will last for a long time.
