Long-Term Vision
In order to appeal to a wide range of potential customers, from those who have never ridden a road bike to avid cycling enthusiasts, the goal with the design was to have an exterior that didn’t resemble an electrically power-assisted bicycle but still able to feel or sense its benefits. The sporty, eye-catching lines formed by the frame that the designer came up with were made possible with hydroforming.
“The Speed Racer” design concept behind the revamped YZF-R1 incorporated the approach to aerodynamics and body design employed on the YZR-M1 MotoGP machine. The result of aiming to be “the fastest” was a design based on horizontal lines that included a cowling with minimal surface area and aerodynamic characteristics that let air flow cross into and over the machine when in motion, borrowing from the M1’s highly refined body design throughout. The dual headlights, an iconic part of the R1’s legacy, were changed to newly developed LED units based on the clear design concept, and the R1 adopts the same style of central air intake duct as the M1.
The YXZ1000R’s product concept was the “King of the Desert.” The request from the North American market was for a design that would make customers want to boast about their machine and would emit overwhelming presence on a dealership’s showroom floor. “Performance Beast” was the design concept chosen and the team sought to express agility like something stalking prey close to the ground, and a fusion of power and refinement. Everything embodied the “Performance Beast” concept, like its long and low silhouette visually conveying a sense of downforce, the “evil eye” lights on the scowling front face and the interior inspiring the driver to take the wheel.
The 190 FSH SPORT was built to take one of our sport boats in the robust “family fun” category and expand the range of activities it could be used in. It adopts a center console layout and was also designed with a full array of functions for fishing to allow families to enjoy towed water sports and angling.
This multipurpose boat was designed as a smart choice to fill a range of boating needs, from fishing and cruising to towed watersports. Its sporty and stylish design features a squared bow and bowrider style layout. Those who prefer cruising can enjoy the rearward-facing bench seat that spurs conversation and the protective roof to keep the sun’s rays at bay, the angler will appreciate the SR-X 24’s tall rails and deck washdown system, and those interested in towed watersports will enjoy the convenient transom boarding step. The SR-X 24 is a versatile, multipurpose package customizable to fit all types boating.
This FRP pool for children can be set up and taken down as needed and is a popular summer recreation asset for facilities like nursery schools and kindergartens. It features a modular construction for easy disassembly and compact storage on facility grounds in the offseason. The design includes numerous features throughout for safety and ease of use, like the floor drain, wide deck walls and the curved, child-friendly surfaces.
Built on the MT-09 platform, the XSR900 inherits its outstanding base performance while offering new value with timeless retro-inspired styling. Rather than hiding the components from the MT-09, this model’s design sought to instead show them in an attractive new light. Various metal machining and processing techniques were used to accentuate the look and feel of authenticity throughout the machine, such as the hairline finishes of the aluminum parts and the black alumite finish of plate parts.
The “Thrilling Beauty” design concept aims for styling that brings out the rider’s competitive side. While retaining the signature R-DNA look, the LED position lights add a distinctive glaring look and give the front face a lifelike quality that reflects the intensity and fighting spirit of a rider entering the track. Also, the “center core” and the “cross-layered” concepts are what create the highly aerodynamic styling. The “center core” concept gives visual form to the air flowing through the center of the machine, while the flowing horizontal lines of the “cross-layered” design suggests a winged creature slicing through the wind as it rushes forward.
The TMAX is a long-running bestseller and leader in Europe’s maxi scooter market. The TMAX530 retains the series’ balance of sportiness and elegance in its proportions, the intrepid-looking front face, the iconic “boomerang” motif seen from the side and more. The front view sports chrome lines that frame the headlight lenses and silver extensions for the “eyelids” to create a more intrepid, youthful look. The body’s interior spaces were designed in the image of a luxury sedan and a high-quality look and feel were sought throughout the machine, including the texture lines above the right and left storage compartments that were created from handcrafted forming dies.
This is Yamaha’s top-of-the-line utility snowmobile model, designed to deliver the performance needed for a variety of professional uses on the snow and an extra measure of comfort in use. The model’s exterior speaks of its real-world focus, like having the rearview mirrors positioned on the inside of the windscreen to provide better vision rearward as well as helping prevent breakage. The unique shape and layout of the headlight was designed to help prevent loss of forward illumination from snow build-up.
The idea behind this industrial-use multi-rotor drone was to pioneer new methods of agriculture from the air. The design combines structural and functional beauty into a product proposing Yamaha’s vision of agriculture for the near future. Reflecting Yamaha ideas and know-how rooted in being a personal mobility company that values maneuverability and excitement in use, the YMR-08 boasts not just excellent performance and functionality but also a form and styling that inspires pride of ownership. The propellers can be folded in to facilitate transport or storage.
The EXULT 43 is a premium yacht aimed at marine enthusiasts looking to enjoy a wide range of leisure activities on the water, from cruises to overnight marina stays. Its silhouette—recognizable as an EXULT at a glance on the open water—features a seamless shear line made possible with a combination of advanced manufacturing technologies. The concept for the interior cabin appointments was “A Luxury Guest House on the Water,” with minute attention to detail applied to the furnishings to achieve a luxurious and quality atmosphere.
The NIKEN is a large-displacement sport model featuring Yamaha’s exclusive Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology and styling designed to “foretell an all-new riding experience.” It was developed to visually express its high level of performance for carving the corners of winding mountain roads at will by actively using the new LMW mechanisms as design elements. With a silhouette that conveys its built-for-sport positioning, a front face that communicates both aerodynamics and the light look and feel of a floating-mount part, and more, the NIKEN achieves styling that couples quality with performance.
The F425 is the flagship of Yamaha’s outboard motor lineup, which takes reliability and durability as its guiding principles worldwide. The designers gave it a distinct and dynamic form that complements whatever boat it is mounted on. In the process of creating a design that would be truly innovative, the designers worked closely with the engineering and manufacturing divisions, reviewing and redesigning the machine’s internals and component shapes until they conceived a structure and form worthy of the next generation of Yamaha outboards.
This middle-class LMW was developed under a product concept of “The Smartest Way to Commute.” It achieves its design concept of “Your Right Hand” (i.e., your trustworthy partner in business/work) with a sculpted, cool and collected front face,proportions hinting at a comfortable commute, CMFG reminiscent of a high-quality business suit and leather shoes, and more, all while carrying on the Tricity Series' signature “Y” motif.
Co-developed with Taiwanese company Gogoro Inc., the EC-05 electric scooter’s base platform was built by Gogoro while Yamaha sought to express its ride features and our Jin-Ki Kanno ideal with the exterior design alone. To do this, the designers endeavored to illustrate the electric motor powerfully sending drive force to the rear wheel and placed the model’s character lines higher to convey the type of ride expected from a Yamaha. The Isolate Blue color scheme conveys a look and feel of something new and untouched, like the undiscovered depths of the deep sea or the first breath on a space station, and was specifically designed for the EC-05 to serve as a symbol of Yamaha EVs.
