Getting Quicker With Age: YZF-R1 Kando

Like a fine wine, motorcycle racer Leanne Nelson continues to improve with age. Her ability to ride at the pace of the Australian Superbike Championship field, regardless of age or gender, is a testament to her elite status. This level of performance achieved well into her fifties, is a clear demonstration of Leanne’s determination and love for motorcycle racing. Her success is not just due to her Yamaha YZF-R1 but also her determination to succeed.

Leanne recently made a remarkable debut in the top-tier Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), entering the second round of the series at the Sydney Motorsport Park. It was the opportunity Leanne had been working towards for decades: to not only measure herself against the country's best riders but also learn from the experience and take her riding to the next level.

While her mid-field qualifying time surprised many and proved she had the pace, a broken battery terminal during Race 1 sidelined her for the evening. Such a small thing had brought an early end to a promising debut. Despite the disappointment, Leanne reflected on the experience with her usual optimism. “It was great to be able to measure myself against the best riders in the country. The goal was to enjoy the moment, kick some goals, and set some new goals, and that's what I did.”
