With the aim of improving knowledge and skills of all service engineers involving in Yamaha SMT business and to gain continuous mutual trust between Yamaha and distributors, SMT Group 1~3 of Robotics Operations CS Division held SMT World Technician Grand Prix for distributor service engineers from all around the world after 4 years since the last face-to-face participation.

The entry to this Grand Prix was opened to all distributor service engineers worldwide, and was held in 3 languages (English, Chinese and Japanese). There were 111 participants signed up for Preliminary Round which was held online (Entry proportion: China: 42%, Europe/America region: 15%, other Asian countries: 43%). 12 finalists who made it through the Preliminary Round were from Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Poland, Hungary, Philippines, Korea and Japan. The Final Round was held in Robotics Operations new training room.

The theme for this time is “Yamaha SMT New Models and Functions”, and we prepared 4 different tests with the concept of “SMTG” = S: Software Skill; M: Mechatronics Skill; T: Teamwork; G: General Knowledge respectively, which are the skills that a service engineer should have. In addition to the conventional individual tests, we also prepared a team test (“Teamwork”) where participating members met for the first time, and all the finalists demonstrated good communication skill which is essential for service engineers.

The award ceremony was held the day after the Final Round at our Annual General Distributors Meeting which was hosted by our Sales Division to proudly honor and cherish all the finalists. The top 3 winners for Final Round are as follows:
1st Place: Mr. Sam Huang of Gemmy-Tek Technology Co, Ltd., Taiwan
2nd Place: Mr. She Zhihua of MASS Suzhou branch, China
3rd Place: Mr. Iwama Koki of MASS Co., Ltd., Japan

After the finals, we have received positive feedbacks such as “good opportunity to learn up-to-date product”, “increased motivation”, “noticing self weaknesses”, and “learning new things from tests and other distributor members”.

Finally, we are very grateful to all distributors for their active participation in this event and demonstrating their top-level knowledge and skills, and we would like to continue to hold such event in the future to improve service qualities, increase motivation of engineers and trust towards Yamaha brand.
