Yamaha Motor-Developing Platforms for Emerging Markets, New Motorcycle Test Circuit in Shizuoka

November 13, 2013

IWATA, November 13, 2013 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd (Tokyo: 7272) announced today the completion of its Kikukawa Test Circuit, a project which started in the Tanno Region of the Kikukawa City in Shizuoka in June 2011. Today’s completion ceremony was held with many in attendance, including Takaaki Kimura, the Senior Managing Executive Officer and Representative Director of the Company.

This new addition is Yamaha Motor's fifth test circuit with a track length of 1.9km housed within a 490,000m2 land mass. Featuring mountain roads and multipurpose roads, the circuit has been created for developing motorcycle platforms in order to meet safety and environmental requirements in emerging markets such as Asia and Central and South America.

The circuit is also designed to conserve the ecosystems in the area as much as possible, by leaving existing plantations untouched in the outer perimeter of the facility by a width of approximately 30m.

In addition, Yamaha Motor is planning for a second-stage construction in 2019, which will include the extension of the circuit.
