Born October 1946. Took the 1980 350cc World GP Championship title. Raced in GPs from 1975 in the 250cc, 350cc and 500cc classes. In the 250cc class, won his first victory in the French GP in 1977. His first GP victory in the 350cc class came in 1979 in the German Grand Prix, and he was ranked 8th in that year. In 1980, he achieved three wins from a total of six races with a Yamaha engine mounted in a Bimota chassis, beating off Anton Mang (Kawasaki) for the championship title.
